A woman was left fuming after accidentally messing up her fake tan, only to realise when she got in the car the morning after. Sometimes, fake tan can make you feel more glamorous, put together, and more confident to get your arms and legs out. But one woman was left cringing at the results of her fake tan errorand knew that she'd missed a vital step upon application.
Amy O'Connor, who posts on TikTokas @amyoconnormusic, gave a "friendly reminder" to anyone else who is looking to use fake tan products, because she didn't "wash it off" before she left the house.
Some may wonder why you'd want to wash off a product that you'd meticulously applied the night before, but many tanning products come with a guide tan, which isn't the actual colour.

They often recommend that you leave it on for a certain number of hours, and then wash it off to reveal the bronzed goddess glow underneath.
However, if you skip this step, you may be left with a streaky, green, and unappealing fake tan.
That's why Amyissued the warningto her followers, because she'd got caught in the rain, which had acted like the shower she should've taken, and it left her tan uneven.
"What have I done? Oh no! F***! S***! S***! S***!" she screamed in her car, as she realised the state of her legs and chest.
She turned the camera onto herself to show that she had her hood up, and her whole body had gotten soaked, leaving her tan super patchy and streaky, leaving her with almost green patches on her legs.
If she'd remembered to wash it off, the colour would've been even and had the desired effect, even if she'd been rained on.
In the comments, someone asked: "What happened?"
Another fake tan fan replied: "It rained before she took off her tan, so now the rain has started to take off the fake tan in patches and blobs".
One woman admitted that she had no idea you "had to wash it off" if you were using a developing tan.
Someone told her to just "rub it in," but it would still be streaky as her legs had become wet.
"This has happened to me, it’s the actual worst. I had a professional one done, and it started raining, and she wouldn’t let me wait until it passed," a TikTok user seethed.
Instant fake tan and developing fake tan differ mainly in how they work and how long they last. Instant fake tan gives you immediate colour as soon as you apply it. It usually works like body makeup, sitting on the surface of your skin, and can be washed off with water or soap.
This type is great if you need a quick tan for a special event, but it can come off easily.
On the other hand, developing fake tan contains ingredients like DHA that react with the top layer of your skin to gradually create a tan over several hours, usually between four and eight.
You apply it, let it develop for the recommended time, and then wash off the guide colour (if there is one), leaving behind a tan that lasts for several days and fades gradually as your skin naturally exfoliates.
This type of tan is more resistant to washing and sweating compared to instant tan - but if it does have a guide colour, you need to remember to wash it off.
